Front of Card:
Howie and Terrie, end up falling in love with each other because of all the time they spend together on the set shooting commercials for an electronics store. In fact, they decide that there is no need for the extra expense of having two RV’s on site, that they would just move in together and share one trailer. After a recent wrap of a new commercial, Terrie, seeing that Howie is a little slow after all his football beatings, decides to take charge by asking Howie to marry her.
Howie says he’s game and wants to tie the knot immediately and suggests going to Vegas since its Sunday. Unfortunately all the chapels in Vegas are booked. Terrie’s agent is the mayor of a small suburb, however, and they get him to perform the ceremony and he does so by simply asking the two if they really want to get married. The only two witnesses are Dennis Rodman and Anna Nicole, who were asked to attend by Howie and Terrie. Terrie moonlights as a local college DJ and once they are back to Houston, Howie moves into Terrie’s “radio” shack. Two weeks later Terrie gets a big role in a movie and wants to dump hubby Howie. Terrie comes to you for help. Is the marriage valid? How can Terrie get out of this relationship?
Back of Card:
Yes, the marriage is valid. It does not matter that Howie and Terrie never got a marriage license, even though no marriage license was obtained, a ceremonial marriage can be valid. However, since there was no valid ceremonial marriage with license, the marriage must be established by proof (i.e. that the elements of a ceremonial marriage were satisfied).
